International sports car star Christopher Mies will take on some of Australia’s top racing talents in next month’s Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Pro-Am at Phillip Island. And the German can’t wait.
Mies will join the championship’s most experienced campaigner, Marc Cini, in the two-driver event and will look to add to his winning tally on Australian soil, which includes two outright Bathurst 12 Hour victories.
The duo has previously raced together in multiple endurance races including this year’s Bathurst 12 Hour, placing third in the GT3-Am class.
Mies now looks forward to racing against some of Australia’s best drivers in the Pro-Am from both the Carrera Cup and V8 Supercars championships.
“It’s great to join Marc in the Carrera Cup Australia championship for the Pro-Am. I’ve enjoyed racing with Marc many times but never in Carrera Cup so I’m looking forward to returning to Australia for this unique opportunity,” said Mies.
“The event has some great local talent – both Carrera Cup drivers and local V8 racers. I’ve raced many of them before in the Bathurst 12 Hour; now I’m looking forward to competing against them in the same spec race car. There will be some great racing and I can’t wait to line up with Carrera Cup’s most experienced driver at Phillip Island.”
The championship’s second most experienced TAG Heuer Carrera Challenge driver, Ash Samadi, has sourced local talent for the two-race event in 2008 Carrera Cup Australia runner-up Dean Fiore.
“Ash and I have had one test already and have another planned prior to the event. I believe we’re as good a combination as any and a good chance to finish on the podium. Ash is doing a fantastic job this year and his approach and consistency is serving him really well. My job is to add value and hopefully some extra points to Ash’s championship tilt for 2015. I can’t wait,” said Fiore.
An unchanged format will see all Professional Class drivers competing alongside non-regular Challenge drivers in two hour-long races while the permanent Challenge drivers can be joined by a Professional driver of their choice.
The Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Pro-Am event will be held at the Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on May 22-24, 2015.
