PORSCHE Motorsport Australia has welcomed the revised Motorsport Australia Super License points structure, announced today.
Drivers are required to accrue a minimum of 15 Super License points prior to being granted a license that allows them to compete in the Repco Supercars Championship and at major events like the Repco Bathurst 1000.
The new structure ensures that competitors competing on the Porsche Pyramid, including Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia and Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia, will have significant opportunity to quickly accrue the required points in each category.
Carrera Cup is awarded 12 points for the drivers finishing first, second and third in the championship, with points awarded to 10th position overall.
Sprint Challenge will see 10 points awarded to the series winner, with 8 for second down to 1 point for 7th position in the final series standings.
It ensures both categories, especially when the progression from one to another is utilised effectively, remain incredibly strong, competitive, and viable options for drivers looking to forge a career in Supercars as well as for those looking further afield.
“We welcome the efforts of Motorsport Australia to refine and adapt the Super License points system that provides the pathway to the Repco Supercars Championship,” said Porsche Motorsport Australia Manager, Barry Hay.
“The allocations provided to Carrera Cup and Sprint Challenge reflect the high level of competition and professionalism within both categories and the talent they both produce.
“While a lot of our drivers want to chase the overseas career path in the Porsche Pyramid, it’s obvious that our categories are also a fantastic place for drivers to prepare for Supercars.
“That is evidenced by the fact there will be three recent Carrera Cup Champions on the grid this year, and a host of others on the grid who progressed through one-make Porsche Motorsport in Australia prior to jumping into Supercars.”
